I took my first dose of Malarone today. Normally I wouldn't start until tomorrow but the doctor wanted an extra day to see how I react, as it can cause headaches. Apparently it's also known for causing nightmares but since I already have pretty vivid dreams, that doesn't bother me too much - I hope!
My shopping has been a bit out of control, but with so little time I've gone for the "buy one of everything and return it later" method. Do you know how hard it is to find good sandals in January?? By now I have way more than I need and am trying to whittle through, taking two things out for every one I've put in.
I probably won't be able to blog until we get to the school as I don't imagine there's wifi in the serengeti - someone should really get on that. I kid, I kid!
Here is our itinerary, briefly:
Arrive Kilimanjaro at 9:30PM
Be met by guide company and get transferred to Moivaro Lodge
Sleep!
Feb 3 - Meet friends for lunch and chai
Transfer bags to Peace House
Depart Arusha by plane at 3:00PM
Arrive at Serengeti airstrip at 4:00PM
Enjoy game drive enroute to camp
Feb 4 - Early morning and afternoon game drives through Serengeti National Park
Feb 5 - Morning game drive
Depart Serengeti airstrip at 4:30PM
Arrive in Arusha at 5:00PM
Transfer to Peace House
Feb 6-24 - Volunteer at Peace House
Feb 25 - Picked up at Peace House by guide at 8:30AM
Head to Lake Manyara National Park
Picnic lunch
Continue up western escarpment of Great Rift Valley
Arrive at Ngorongoro Farm House
Feb 26 - Early morning drive through Ngorongoro Crater
Feb 27 - Return to Arusha to pick up luggage at Peace House
Depart Kilimanjaro at 10:35PM
Feb 28 - Arrive in Amsterdam at 8:10AM
Depart Amsterdam for Minneapolis (Mom and I are currently on different flights for this leg)
I suppose I should go back to packing. I'm trying to put off ironing in hopes that Rich will do it for me! Will try to post once more before we leave but no promises!
